Walter Leal

He is a trained biologist and has various doctorates on environment and sustainable development issues. He is the Director of the Research and Transfer Centre “Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management” and the “European School of Sustainability Science and Research” at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany, where he is in charge of a number of European projects. He has authored, co-authored or edited over 400 publications on the subjects of environment, sustainable development and climate change.

 

Professor Walter Leal (BSc, PhD, DSc, DPhil, DL, FRGS, FRSA, FRSB) is also the initiator of the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP), a network of 128 universities sharing a common interest on sustainability research. He is the founding editor of the “International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education” and sits on the editorial board of various journals. Professor Lealis fluent in English, German, Portuguese and Spanish, and has a good knowledge of French.
